Sisters play their first UK shows in DecemberLike fellow up and comers Taxi Taxi!, First Aid Kit are two young sisters from Stockholm making enchanting indie folk songs in the vein of CocoRosie, Devendra Banhart and the like. (Also like Taxi Taxi!, one of them is called Johanna, but that’s beside the point). First Aid Kit’s debut EP, Drunken Trees, was released earlier this year in Sweden on Rabid Records, the label owned by The Knife’s Dreijer siblings, and will see a UK release on February 23rd through Wichita Recordings. ’You’re Not Coming Home Tonight’ and ‘Tangerine’ sound a lot like something Jaymay would write, which is a good thing.
The re-release will come with a bonus track – a studio version of their YouTube cover of Fleet Foxes’ ‘Tiger Mountain Peasant Song’, which has been viewed around 160,000 times. Which will be nice, but if you don’t want to wait, Johanna and Klara are already making it available for free here. Now we’ve taken away that incentive to buy it, you should probably also know that there will be a bonus DVD too, featuring three songs played live out in a Swedish forest.
First Aid Kit play their debut UK shows in December. Catch them here:
15.12.08 12 Bar, London
16.12.08 Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, London [Wichita Christmas party]
And seeing as I mentioned Taxi Taxi! earlier, Johanna and Miriam revealed in a Myspace blog last week that they intend to release their debut album early next year through Danish label Rumraket. Their 2007 self-titled debut EP is well worth checking out in the meantime.
