Legendary rocker updates Christmas carol for new political eraJust when you think there couldn’t possibly be any more Christmas albums coming out this year, you go back and find that actually you missed one. Released last week, Joan Jett’s A Blackheart Christmas features virtually the entire roster of her own Blackheart Records singing holiday standards and originals. Joan herself contributes the previously released ‘Little Drummer Boy’ and a bizarre modern update of ‘Silent Night’ featuring excerpts from Barack Obama’s election victory speech in Chicago earlier this month. Originals come from Seattle punk band and recent signees The Cute Lepers and Blackheart veterans The Vacancies.
Often underrated as an industry pioneer, Jett’s formation of Blackheart Records in 1980 for the release of her debut album made her the first woman in history to start her own rock label. This is the label’s first holiday compilation and is available exclusively through iTunes. No physical release is planned on any format.
