Munchausen syndrome by proxy is the medical name for projecting a fictional illness onto another person, generally through deliberate injury, to get some kind of attention. You’re probably seen it on ‘Casualty’. Singing actress Zooey Deschanel has hardly been starved of attention this year, with her She & Him collaboration with M. Ward getting almost unanimously glowing reviews, but her latest film role alongside Jim Carrey in the upcoming ‘Yes Man’ sees her creating a much less tragic fiction: Munchausen By Proxy, the band.
A world away from She & Him’s lovely retro and country stylings, Munchausen By Proxy sees Zooey team up with San Franciscan Von Iva (who, funnily enough, had a song called ‘No Man’ on last year’s Our Own Island and recently released the aptly titled EP Girls On Film) for four electro-rock tracks that will feature in the film and on the accompanying soundtrack.
You can hear clips of three of the songs over on the ‘Yes Man’ soundtrack Myspace. The rest of the soundtrack comes from real-life band Eels who contribute eight songs from their back catalogue and one brand new song, ‘Man Up’.
The soundtrack is released on December 9th in the US, with the film out on December 19th. Not sure when we’ll be able to see/hear this stuff in the UK.
