lykke li nominated for five swedish grammis

281108_lykkeliSwedish Idol runner up also gets five nods

Lykke Li’s live performances have been one of the year’s sensations so it’s no suprise to find her name among the contenders for Best Live Act at the 2009 Swedish Grammis, to be held in Stockholm on January 7th. She’s also been shortlisted for Album Of The Year (for her debut Youth Novels), Best Female Pop Artist, Best Lyricist and Best Composer (with Björn Yttling), bringing her total nominations to five.

Matching that is former Swedish Idol contestant Amanda Jenssen, narrowly beaten by winner Marie Picasso in December 2007, who goes up against Lykke in all but the Best Live Act category, with an additional nomination for Song Of The Year. ‘Do You Love Me’ was the first single from her debut album Killing My Darlings, which has now sold over 50,000 copies in Sweden.

Frida Hyvönen and Anna Ternheim also did well, receiving four nominations each – Album Of The Year, Best Female Artist, Best Lyricist and Best Composer – while Hello Saferide are shortlisted for Album Of The Year (for More Modern Short Stories From Hello Saferide), Best Female Artist and Best Video (for ‘Anna’). Wears The Trousers favourites Those Dancing Days picked up a single nomination, for the brilliant video to ‘Home Sweet Home’.

Other nominees include Robyn, Viktoria Tolstoy, Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Firefox AK, Miss Li and Sophie Zelmani. Go here for the full list (in Swedish). The Swedish Grammis have been televised since 1988, though the awards date back to 1969. A jury of 100 industry insiders preside over the outcome, although 14 of the 18 categories are also open to a public vote.
