gang gang dance singer's not so saintly side project

Who doesn’t love a band named after a method of contraception? I can’t think of any others right now (The Applicators is the closest I got), but roll with me here. This looks fun.

IUD is the recently formed union of Lizzi Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance (whose recent album, Saint Dymphna, was on many best of ‘08 lists) and Sadie Laska of The Social Registry label’s Growing, a duo that specialise in very noisy, very rude songs like ‘Goat Pussy’ and ‘FFing’ (short for ‘flirty fishing’, which is, according to Wikipedia, “a form of evangelistic religious prostitution practiced from around 1974 to 1987 by female members in the new religious movement, the Children of God, now known as The Family International”), both of which can be heard on their Myspace.

The band release their debut album The Proper Sex through The Social Registry on March 24th in the US, preceded by a 7″ single, ‘Daddy’, which features a remix from Aaron Warren of Black Dice. You can have the A-side for free though, thanks to Stereogum. Click the link below.
