Kristin Hersh
‘Gin’

What better way to mark the final day of our Kristin Hersh Week than with a brand new song fresh out of the studio? None, exactly, so here it is. We timed this thing so well, right?

‘Gin’ is the first of another dozen songs that Kristin will be uploading over the course of the year for all your downloading, listening and even remixing kicks on the newly relaunched CASH Music website (now operating officially as a non-profit organisation). Last year gave us what will soon become her new commercial release, Speedbath [more info], and who knows what the next 12 months will lead to. At the moment Kristin says that there’s no plan to name the series.

‘Gin’ is one of those songs that Kristin says seems to overlap between her solo and Throwing Muses songwriting styles, a phenomenon that’s relatively new to her, and was written in Sydney during Kristin’s Paradoxical Undressing / Throwing Muses tour back in December. Recorded back home in Rhode Island with Steve Rizzo, it’s the first song to feature “The Guitar That Love Built” [?]. Perhaps the finest antidote to all the commercialism of Valentine’s Day we can think of. We’ve posted the link to the 320kbps MP3 below; visit the CASH Music site to read Kristin’s notes, the lyrics, or to download FLAC and mix stems.
