scarlett johansson breaks up with pete yorn

It’s rare that Wears The Trousers bothers to foray into the yawnsome personal affairs of A-list celebrities and we’re not about to change that now. The relationship between Scarlett Johansson and singer-songwriter Pete Yorn was purely musical (we think), so here we go. Recorded two years before Scarlett released last year’s scalp-scratching debut of Tom Waits covers [review], the duo’s new album Break Up has its roots in a concept literally dreamt up by Yorn that seeks to recreate the atmosphere of Serge Gainsbourg’s 1960s duets with Brigitte Bardot. USA Today describe the album as “a song cycle that chronicles a tempestuous affair”.

Yorn penned eight original songs for the album, with a cover of Big Star founder Chris Bell’s ‘I Am The Cosmos’ rounding out the tracklist. At his invitation, Scarlett made a brief visit to the studio, wrapping up her vocals in two afternoon sessions, while producer Sunny Levine added the polish. Intrigued? You can hear one of the songs, ‘Relator’, over at thebreakupalbum.com. It’s out on September 7th.
