Taxi! Taxi
‘Ripest Fruit’

Gaining an extensive following and securing spots on both Roskilde and Hultsfred Festivals after just two demos on Myspace, twin sisters Miriam and Johanna Eriksson Berhan release their debut album, Standing At Your Back Door, on October 12th. As Taxi Taxi!, barely grazing the edge of their teens, and with a couple of much-admired EPs under their belts (2007’s self-titled and Step Into The Light, released earlier this year), the two have rustled up more than enough anticipation for their first full-length release than you can shake a harmony-laden Swedish stick at.

A video of a live performance of ‘Ripest Fruit’ can be seen on their Myspace, pretty much showing that it’s the simplicity of this song that makes it so compelling. The whispery guitar and taut, wooden percussion play host to the wonderfully blended voices of Miriam and Johanna, making them more mellow than fellow pop Swedes Those Dancing Days, but way more lovable than the faux ’60s jangle of The Concretes. It manages to stick to one pace, leave out the big sing-a-long chorus, and still give you a slice of acoustic-based loveliness that avoids the limp route it could have taken. Fond and nostalgic, basic and joyful, it’s what plays in your head when you see the person on the bus that you’re secretly in love with.
