Nominations for the annual Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards were announced today, with many of the artists we featured in our Australia Week back in July stepping up to the plate with several nods across the event’s 28 categories.
Sarah Blasko, Kate Miller-Heidke and Lisa Mitchell receive three nominations each, all competing for Best Female Artist alongside New Zealander Ladyhawke (nominated five times in total) and Australian Idol alumna Jessica Mauboy (the real surprise with a whopping seven nods). Sarah and Kate are both up for Best Pop Release with their albums As Day Follows Night [review], also up for Album Of The Year, and Curiouser [review] respectively. In addition, Kate’s smash hit single ‘The Last Day On Earth’, popularised by a dramatic episode of ‘Neighbours’, is up for Single Of The Year, while Lisa’s enchanting ‘Coin Laundry’ is among the nominees for Breakthrough Artist – Single.
Other nominees with female vocals include The Waifs, Little Birdy, Bertie Blackman, Sneaky Sound System and Zoe Badwi. No love for Holly Throsby this year? Very disappointing! The 2009 ARIA Awards will be held on November 26th at the Sydney Olympic Park. To view the full list of nominees, visit the official ARIA website.
