Having only played their debut live shows back in July, French duo Nadège and Lucille – collectively known as Andromakers – are freshly minted bedroom composers from the historical city of Aix-en-Provence. Only the brave take on The Smiths, and Andromakers keep it simple with tambourine, keyboards and some well-placed handclaps. Comparisons with Au Revoir Simone are perhaps inevitable given their instrumental palette, but there are some pleasing vocal quirks and the layers are nicely built up to the singalong ending. Perhaps it’s all a little too simple, but focus on the twee bell sounds bookending the track and it’s perfectly pleasant background music for decorating the Christmas tree. Andromakers are currently unsigned, but will be releasing a four-track EP in February.
