Holly Miranda
‘Forest Green Oh Forest Green’

While downbeat indie-pop foursome The Jealous Girlfriends take a break, guitarist Holly Miranda has not been catching up on shut-eye. After a well received solo EP, Sleep On Fire, and tours supporting The Antlers and Friendly Fires, Miranda releases her Dave Sitek-produced debut full-length The Magician’s Private Library on February 22nd through XL Recordings. The limited 7″ vinyl release of ‘Forest Green Oh Forest Green’ (b/w a cover of Yoko Ono’s ‘Nobody Sees Me Like You Do’) sold out quickly earlier this month. Miranda says she was glad to incorporate two of her obsessions – “smoke stacks and bridges” – into this track and the lyrics lend a definite feel of long train journeys through the countryside, as well as soirées in friends’ basements and bottle-filled kitchens the morning after a party. Also expect a joyously foot-tapping chorus and a beautiful chunk of backwards singing guaranteed to make backmask conspiricists prick up their ears. No one wants to see the end of The Jealous Girlfriends, but it’s hard to argue with the break when we’re treated to such lovely chunks of ear candy.
