she & him line up volume two for spring 2010

The transition from unlikely duo to guilt-free indie-pop favourites has put She & Him close to the top of the pile when it comes to our most anticipated albums of 2010. Speaking to US magazine Paste, who crowned their Volume One debut as the best album of 2008, Zooey Deschanel and M Ward spilled the beans on the follow-up, due in Spring.

Describing the logically named Volume Two as both darker and brighter than its predecessor, Ward said “I think that people are going to hear more contrasts, which is always something that I shoot for in the studio,” adding “What I wanted to do was to show more dimensions to Zooey’s writing, and I’m excited for people to hear the record because I think it’s going to continue to show the strength of her writing.”

For her part, Zooey was full of praise for her musical foil, saying “It’s great to work with Matt because he is always true to himself, and working with him over an extended period confirms this time and again,” adding that they had taken an organic approach to putting the album together, only with “a bit more time and resources so we were able to work a little deeper.” The album was recorded in Los Angeles and Portland over the past 18 months and will feature all-new material.
