Linda Draper
‘Sleepwalkers’ [live]

This previously unreleased track from undersung New York folkie Linda Draper is taken from her latest EP, Pushing Up The Day, out digitally next week through Planting Seeds Records. Recorded live during a session for Californian radio station KFJC with Rob Woodcock on bass, it’s a sweetly resigned little number that shows off Linda’s distinct, vaguely plummy phrasing nicely. Hers is a luminous voice, the kind that inflects like a flickering candle, burning with a simple soul that’s gentile and earnest. It’s sadly true that gentility and earnestness in music are too often taken to be weaknesses, and that assumption is perhaps why, even after six albums, Linda remains something of a hidden treasure. But as she continues to prove, time and again, Linda is an exception more than worth making to what is already a very shaky rule.
