[Amanuensis Productions; February 9]
The first installment in a four-part album series in which Suzanne Vega has re-recorded some of her best-loved songs in an intimate, acoustic setting, Close-Up Vol 1 focuses on the theme of love in all its guises. Writing on her website, Suzanne says, “These are the songs I consider love songs, although they are also songs of attraction, flirtation, and confrontation.”
Arriving just shy of the 25th anniversary of her debut album Suzanne Vega, three songs from which are reimagined here (’Marlene On The Wall’, ‘Small Blue Thing’ and ‘Some Journey’), this is Suzanne’s gift to her fans, available exclusively through her website and through Barnes & Noble in the US. The themes of the other three recordings have yet to be revealed, but we do know that they are set to be released one by one over the next two years.
