ana silvera announces debut single

Voice On The Verge alumna Ana Silvera will release her long-awaited debut single ‘Hometown’ next month on 7″ vinyl and digital download. Though the A-side is undoubtedly a love letter to LDN, Silvera is no Lily Allen. Always with a keen grip on literary ideas of romance and tragedy (one of her songs is based on bloodthirsty Biblical character Salome), she sings the song from the perspective of a dead person, who remains anonymous, lying at the bottom of the Thames.

Recorded with arranger Maxim Moston, sometime violinist for Antony & The Johnsons, and with a video directed by Ryan Foregger (My Brightest Diamond, Ben Kweller), Ana’s strange but tender tale is grippingly recounted over a sumptuous piano score.

The package is completed by ‘Letter From New York’, another love song to London, or at least the people within it. “New York is a kind of ‘mirror city’ to my hometown of London, but as a foreigner you become hyperaware of its strange quirks – the 2 dollar psychics, the strangely named churches, the million nail parlours,” says Ana. “The song is also a straightforward love song, yearning for the one over the sea.”

To celebrate the March 11 release of the single, Ana plays her biggest headline show to date at London’s Purcell Room the same evening, accompanied by the Latin American-influenced Santiago Quartet. Tickets are priced £10. Listen to both songs, and others, here.
